I've finally gotten to test this against the lab. The drawn blood sample sent away for testing came back with a hemoglobin count of 10.8. The HemoGo test done by fingerprick at the exact same time showed 10.6. That could even just be the difference between blood drawn from my vein and blood from my finger. I'm fully satisfied with the accuracy of this hemoglobin meter !

So volume if blood for testing may not have been enough. Have to review instructions again. Hoping for success. Seems like a good monitor though.

Hemoglobin Meter Home Test Kit

I like the simplicity of setting everything up. The meter itself reads lower than the reading they get at the RedCross when I donated platelet on Tuesday. They got a 13.2 reading and my meter at home got a 10.9! That’s a reading that’s 2.3 points lower! I did everything according to instructions! Not sure if there is a way to recalibrate the test meter! Be warned that it will read lower!

Much needed

I love the thought of being able to get my hgb level at home so easily. However this meter was difficult to set the time and date on,also I can't turn it off manually. There is no way to store memory I guess unless you connect it to a computer system. Well maybe someone else can do that. I am not sure how. All in all I think it is a great instrument for reading my levels quickly.

1. Setting the time and date

2. Turning off the device
There is no need to worry about manually shutting it down. When you are finished using the meter, simply press the power button again to turn it off. Additionally, the device will automatically power off after a period of inactivity.

3. Memory storage
The meter does support memory records. After inserting the code chip and turning on the device, you can press the left button to easily review previous memory results.

Several trials before success

I am 77 years old and have been using your meter to test myself. It took me several trials and re-readings of your instructions before I got the hang of it. Both of my hands and all fingers are rough with lots of callouses and it was difficult, initially, to draw any blood. After I realized that the lancing device was designed to go into the skin and then retract, I learned to do two things to make sure that the needle penetrated far enough. First, I did not push the blue lancet all the way into the lancing device so that the needle would have maximum length to penetrate my skin. Second, I learned to press the lancing device hard against my finger. Although I was cautioned to not use too much pressure that might influence the reading, I had to press on the device to get any blood at all. But, in the end, I got the blood I needed and was pleased with the measurement of 13.8. Now I am on my way to keeping my iron reserves good enough to donate my blood every 8 weeks.

I had questions about the accuracy of the hemoglobinometer which was registering significantly higher results than my blood values at the time. Though I was disappointed, the Medasa team quickly addressed my issue with a very generous response. I ordered the hemoglobin meter to monitor my blood level after I was diagnosed with critically low hgb. The meter is amazingly accurate there was only a .1 difference between the meter and the bloodwork done at the hospital. Being able to monitor hgb at home is invaluable for me. When used correctly, the meter is designed to provide readings that closely align with the reference laboratory method. Small differences can occur because of sample collection, sample volume, timing, and normal variation between testing methods. Why is my reading coming out lower?
